Manchester is blessed with both quantity and quality in its transport links, locally, nationally and internationally.

Roads – The city has excellent road links to its suburbs and the rest of
Greater Manchester. There are also a number of motorways, including the orbital M60. The M62 passes north of the city, linking Leeds and the Humber area in the east with Liverpool in the west. The M6 passes west of Manchester on its route from London, and Birmingham to the Scottish border. The M56 heads southwest to Chester, while the M61 goes north to Preston.

Railway – The city has two main railway stations: Piccadilly is the mainline station for the West Coast line from London to Scotland and many other national connections. Victoria handles more local traffic and some connections to the north.

Buses – There is a comprehensive bus network around the city and beyond, including some free Metroshuttle services.

Trams – There are two tram routes: one links Bury to the north with Altrincham in the south; the other heads west from the city centre to Eccles.
